Travel Series: How to Warm Up Before a Run
June 01, 2017One of the easiest ways to stay in shape while traveling is running. What better way to explore the town? But before you put on your running shoes and hit the road, make sure to warm up. We always hear about how we need to “warm up” before running but a lot of us do not know the right way to do it.
Why is it important to Warm Up?
Warming up prepares our mind and muscles for the activity. By warming up our bodies, blood flow gradually increases throughout our muscles, allowing our muscles and nervous system to prepare for the activity ahead. It has benefits to prevent injuries and improve running performance.
How to Warm Up?
Step 1 – Light jog for 5 minutes
Step 2 – Dynamic stretching
Step 3 – Run
Difference between Dynamic Stretching and Static Stretching?
Dynamic Stretching: Using “movement” to stretch muscle fibers. It is best to do dynamic stretching before activities.
Static Stretching: Holding “still” positions to stretch muscle fibers. It is best to do static stretching after activities.
