6 Essential Tips To Make a Quality Fitness Routine
January 05, 2017If you’re like me and get bored with repetitive gym and treadmill routines, it’s time to break up with them!
It’s hard to find motivation to do something you don’t enjoy, so why not make your fitness routine fun! When you love the physical activity you do, you will find yourself looking forward to your workouts because they make you happy and healthy – it’s a win-win!
I used to compete as a figure roller skater during my adolescence and early adult life.
I trained hard almost every day for hours, and my workouts were always fun because I felt like I was just dancing on wheels. When I had to stop skating to pursue my physical therapy education, I found myself continuously falling in and out of my gym routines. They weren’t as fun as skating, and I lost motivation to make my exercise regular. If you’ve had a similar experience, I encourage you to stop thinking about exercise as 3 sets of 12 repetitions of squats or bicep curls. Not everyone gets pumped by lifting weights.
Any regular physical activity provides more health and wellness benefits than not doing anything, so I encourage you to find something active that you love to do.
Happiness is key for not only physical health, but for emotional health as well, so I can’t stress finding a fun physical activity enough.
Helpful Tips to Making a Quality Fitness Routine:
1. Wake Up 10 Minutes Earlier
Spoil your dog with a morning walk, or take an evening stroll with your spouse to catch up about your days. Try to avoid the hottest hours of the day, and wear sunscreen!
2. Sign Up for Group Classes
Paying for a month worth of yoga is more likely to get you to participate more regularly because you won’t want to waste your money.
3. Workout With a Friend
This will make you more accountable to stick with it because you won’t want to cancel on your friend.
4. Check Online for Discounts
Groupon and Living Social provide pretty decent discounts for really fun things to do!
5. Schedule It!
Visual reminders will help you mentally prepare for the time you want to dedicate to physical activity.
6. Reward Yourself
Buy those new shoes you’ve had your eye on, or plan a date night dinner out when you both achieve your goal of 30 minutes of fun physical activity 3 days each week.
