Physical Therapy for Athletes and Active Individuals

Whether you're a competitive athlete, weekend warrior, or simply enjoy staying active, an injury can keep you from doing the activities you love. Sports injuries can affect muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and bones and may occur from a sudden injury or from repetitive stress and overuse.

At Coury & Buehler Physical Therapy, our sports medicine team provides individualized treatment to help athletes and active individuals recover from injury, restore strength and mobility, and safely return to the activities they enjoy. We work with patients of all activity levels and create treatment plans based on their injury, goals, and sport.

Common Sports Injuries We Treat

Our physical therapists evaluate and treat a wide range of sports-related injuries, including:

  • Sprains & Strains – Injuries to muscles, tendons, and ligaments that can occur during sports and physical activity.
  • ACL Injuries – Injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament, commonly occurring during cutting, pivoting, or landing activities.
  • Meniscus Tears – Injuries to the cartilage of the knee that can cause pain, swelling, and difficulty with movement.
  • Rotator Cuff Injuries – Shoulder injuries that can cause pain and weakness, particularly with overhead activities.
  • Tennis Elbow – Overuse of the forearm and elbow that can cause pain during gripping and repetitive activities.
  • Runner's Knee – Pain around the kneecap that commonly develops from repetitive running or other activities.
  • Shin Splints – Pain along the shin that often occurs with running and other repetitive impact activities.
  • Achilles Tendinopathy – Irritation or degeneration of the Achilles tendon that can cause pain during running and jumping.
  • Ankle Sprains – Injuries to the ankle ligaments that commonly occur from rolling or twisting the ankle.

How Physical Therapy Can Help

Sports physical therapy focuses on more than simply reducing pain. Our therapists work to identify the factors that contributed to your injury and develop a progressive plan to help you safely return to your activities.

Treatment may include:

  • Manual therapy
  • Mobility and flexibility training
  • Strengthening and conditioning
  • Balance and coordination exercises
  • Movement and running analysis
  • Sport-specific exercises
  • Injury prevention strategies
  • Return-to-sport testing and progression

Our goal is to help you regain confidence in your body and return to your sport or activity safely and effectively.

Return to Sport

Returning to your sport too quickly after an injury can increase the risk of reinjury. Our therapists can help guide your recovery by progressively increasing strength, mobility, balance, endurance, and sport-specific demands.

Whether you're returning to running, lifting, pickleball, golf, or competitive athletics, we'll work with you to develop a plan based on your individual goals.

Schedule an Appointment

If an injury is keeping you from participating in the activities you enjoy, our sports medicine team at Coury & Buehler Physical Therapy can help. Contact us today to schedule an evaluation and take the next step toward getting back to the activities you love.
