Shoulder Pain and Injury Treatment

The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, allowing you to reach, lift, throw, and perform many everyday activities. Because it relies on a complex network of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints, it is also one of the most common areas for pain and injury.

Shoulder pain can develop suddenly after an injury or gradually over time due to overuse, repetitive movements, poor posture, or age-related changes. Whether you're experiencing pain when reaching overhead, weakness, stiffness, or limited range of motion, physical therapy can help identify the underlying cause and restore function.

At Coury & Buehler Physical Therapy, our experienced therapists provide personalized care for a wide variety of shoulder conditions. Through a comprehensive evaluation, we'll develop a treatment plan focused on reducing pain, improving mobility, and helping you return to work, sports, and the activities you enjoy.

Common Shoulder Conditions We Treat

Our therapists evaluate and treat many conditions affecting the shoulder, including:

  • Rotator Cuff Tear – Damage to one or more of the rotator cuff tendons that can cause pain and weakness.
  • Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy – Irritation or degeneration of the rotator cuff tendons from overuse.
  • Shoulder Impingement Syndrome – Compression of the rotator cuff tendons during shoulder movement.
  • Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis) – Painful stiffness and loss of shoulder motion.
  • Shoulder Instability – Excessive movement of the shoulder joint that may lead to repeated dislocations.
  • Shoulder Labral Tear – Injury to the cartilage that helps stabilize the shoulder.
  • Biceps Tendinitis – Inflammation of the tendon at the front of the shoulder.
  • Shoulder Arthritis – Degeneration of the shoulder joint causing pain and stiffness.

Click on any condition above to learn more about its causes, symptoms, and treatment options.

How Physical Therapy Can Help

Physical therapy is often an effective, non-surgical treatment option for shoulder pain. Treatment is tailored to your individual needs and may include:

  • Manual therapy
  • Stretching and mobility exercises
  • Strengthening of the rotator cuff and shoulder muscles
  • Postural correction
  • Activity modification
  • Return-to-sport or work guidance

Our goal is to help you relieve pain, improve shoulder function, and prevent future injuries.
